On May 11, 2018, Virginia Beach EMS received the American Heart Association 2018 Mission: Lifeline GOLD PLUS EMS Recognition Award at the Virginia Heart Attack Coalition (VHAC) State Meeting in Chesterfield, Virginia.
Mission: Lifeline EMS Recognition recognizes EMS systems for their role in providing timely treatment for heart attack patients.
Agencies must track various achievement measures, such as obtaining 12 lead EKG’s, obtaining them in a timely manner, performing assessments and transporting quickly and working with the hospitals to make the time from first medical contact to opening the blocked heart artery even faster. The “Plus” measure is optional and measured 12 lead acquisition in cardiac arrest patients who regained a pulse this year.
Virginia Beach EMS remains very active with our local hospitals, TEMS regional EMS council, and Eastern Region of VHAC to work together to improve heart attack patient outcomes. Saving lives is a team effort! The achievement of this award was made possible by the combined hard work and dedication of our VBEMS members, the Virginia Beach Fire Department and our local hospitals. Thank you Virginia Beach EMS and Virginia Beach Fire Department members.
