The goal of this class is to improve disaster preparedness within VBEMS. Class consists of an hour of lecture reviewing mass casualty incident management concepts and key positions within the Medical Branch of an ICS organization. Students will set up treatment and rehab areas, learn about equipment available for a MCI response, and practice moving patients and providing care in a disaster setting. Continuing education credits are provided.
Class size is limited to 20 students and is open to ALL approved VBEMS members who have completed FEMA classes (e.g. ICS 100/200/700/800).
Family, friends, and interested organizations may attend the class as patients.
This is a hands-on class. Participants should be prepared to lift equipment and simulated patients and work with equipment on the ground. Wearing of long duty pants, safety shoes, and durable gloves is encouraged.
