As you know, there is considerable attention these days on the rising number of opiate overdose deaths across the nation. This has led to dramatic changes, including easy access to Naloxone (Narcan) by family and friends of potential overdose victims. Meanwhile, the City of Virginia Beach has been an active participant in efforts to enhance the capacity of our first responders.
Virginia Beach EMS has a new protocol that allows EMT’s to administer Naloxone as well.
All Virginia Beach ambulances will carry a REVIVE Naloxone kit. Specifics about administration, storage and restock are included in our training program. You must complete the training prior to utilizing these kits. Online training is available on Moodle (our online learning management system) at http://learn.vbems.com
All EMT’s must complete the program prior to being released as an AIC. If you have any questions about the BLS Naloxone training please feel free to contact Instruction Supervisor Karin Pettinger via email email@example.com or call (757) 385-2972. If you have any questions related to the protocol or related regulatory issues please contact Division Chief John Bianco via email firstname.lastname@example.org or call (757) 385-5002.
