What to Expect


  • Arrive early to your shift for ambulance and equipment checkoff
  • Always be prepared
  • Assigned to one of the ambulance attendants who will supervise you during your observer duty
  • Bring money for food
  • Bring some snacks in case you do not have time for a full meal


  • Render any patient care
  • Assist with lifting or moving a patient
  • Talk on the radio provided to you and press the orange button
  • Drive an EMS vehicle

What to wear

  • Department observer badge and vest
  • Plain collared shirt
  • Dark pants (No jeans)
  • Closed toed shoes
  • Dress for the weather
  • Dress for climbing in and out of an ambulance
