VB Rescue BLS Academy Graduations Return for New Volunteer EMTs

VB Rescue revived one of the system’s greatest traditions on March 17, holding the system’s first BLS Academy Graduation Ceremony since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sixty-one graduates from Basic Life Support (BLS) Academies 45, 46, 47, 48, 49 and 50 were recognized for their achievement and service to the City of Virginia Beach. Each of these volunteer providers passed the Department of EMS’ BLS Academy course, passed the National Registry exam to become certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and are still active volunteers with VB Rescue.

Virginia Beach City Councilman Michael Berlucchi served as the event’s keynote speaker.

Senior Paramedic Ed Britt was also recognized for his work as the lead instructor for each of the BLS Academies. Britt and his students worked tirelessly through the COVID-19 pandemic, completing the course despite pandemic-related restrictions.
