VB Rescue – EMS Begins First Advanced EMT Academy With 21 Volunteer Providers

The first-ever Advanced EMT Academy offered by VB Rescue – EMS started on Tuesday, beginning a several month journey for members to earn their AEMT certification.

Twenty-one VB Rescue volunteer providers were accepted into the academy, which will operate on Tuesday and Thursday nights at The Bruce W. Edwards Virginia Beach EMS Headquarters and Training Center. The academy is expected to be completed by March 16, 2023.

Upon completion, each volunteer will have earned their National Registry AEMT certification and will have been released to operate as an AEMT with VB Rescue. Each student in the academy is an active VB Rescue volunteer EMT and will take the course at no cost to them, provided they continue volunteering with VB Rescue after the completion of their internship process.

Advanced EMTs play a critical role in patient care and service delivery within the VB Rescue system. This academy with further expand VB Rescue’s ability to offer Advanced Life Support (ALS), whether it come from career paramedics or volunteer paramedics and AEMTs.
