Volunteer Assistant Chief Steve Long Retires From Operational Role With VB Rescue

Volunteer Assistant Chief Steve Long, who has dedicated more than 20 years of his life in service with VB Rescue, ran his last operational shift on April 30.

Chief Long started as a Volunteer Assistant Chief in Dec. 2016, serving as the Department of EMS’ liaison to multiple volunteer rescue squads. Most recently, he worked with Ocean Park, Davis Corner and Chesapeake Beach.

Prior to joining the Department as Assistant Chief, Long played a critical role at Ocean Park. He held multiple positions throughout his tenure along Shore Drive, including Squad Commander.

Though Long has now retired from his position as Assistant Chief, he plans to continue to volunteer with VB Rescue as an administrative member. Long regularly teaches CPR courses and plans on continuing to teach with VB Rescue.
